Irony is there were more black shows in Britain in primetime in the 1990s than now. Since 2000 black led shows disappeared from mainstream British TV. The TV license Tax went up and but no discount for black people due to the lack of black content. Taxation without representation. Some people say this happened when British channels starting outsourcing programme content to independent TV production companies who didn't see having diverse characters as a priority, black people and black shows disappeared from British TV overnight, leading to a wave of black British actors heading to Hollywood for work because they couldn't get jobs in the UK. But you could get white comedians in blackface being 'ironically' racist on mainstream TV in the 2000s

Sheeesh and to think some people assume that racism is uniquely American 🤷🏾‍♂️

Lenny Henry, Joseph Marcell and many other Black Brits are loved over more in the States. I wish they would have broadcast their old shows over here at the same time as American television schedule. Widows the original series would have been well received by the American audiences because doing that time MIami Vice and other shows with black people were starting becoming popular and the norm. Please Britain, bring those shows to the US and Canada

Some of the best comedy writers in the US worked on Good Times, so when it was remade in the UK as The Fosters, that was probably the funniest show on UK television. I'm surprised it didn't last longer.

Missed out No Problem. I was too young to remember it properly but do remember my family watching it.

There were prominent black characters on the soap opera Crossroads in the 1970s and 80s which is overlooked here.

there seem to be a date error with the show Famalam. on google it say it first aired in 2017 not 2008.

Let’s not attach queerness to our culture please… let’s gain valid power and agency built on family and morality before doing anything else first
