My architecture professor was one of those kids. He was so impressed by his treatment by US soldiers that he emigrated then joined the US Army. He later fought for his adopted country in Korea.

My dad said it was common. A couple they captured were crying and had no idea what they were fighting for. They gave them cigarettes as they weren’t armed threw down their weapons and ran. My dad and some his men brought him home that turned out to be the Dresden China family. As my dad spoke German they were so grateful for their son’s return they made my dad beautiful Dresden candle stick holders that I have in my China closet today.

There is a sad video of that poor kid crying. Then there is one of him with a huge smile on his face when the soldiers are feeding him. It’s actually nice. It’s nice knowing he made it. I hope he had a nice life after the war.

Us Americans treat prisoners exceptionally well. That’s why the German civilians were hoping the Americans got to them before the Russians.

Those two kids look terrified, understandably so. Hopefully they were treated humanely by us. Left one looks 14 or so; right kid more 16/17.

The young German youths have no idea how lucky they were. The Nazi propaganda described American soldiers as monsters, rapists, and sociopaths. In actuality, if they had been captured by the Russians, 80-90% of them would have been forced to march to the gulags in Siberia or executed on the way. With the Americans, they would have transported to POW camps at Fort McClellan, AL; Fort Ben Harrison, IN; and Rock Island, IL, as well as others. The camps were highly humane. At the end of the war, they were given the option of either returning to Germany or staying in America and becoming US citizens. There are large populations of Germans around Anniston, AL; Indianapolis, IN; and in western Illinois.

My father told me of his experiences encountering young teenagers pressed into service by the Nazis during WWII. They were seen by a medic, fed a meal, and given a days ration. All were disarmed and told to go home.

My father on law was "drafted" by Germans he was maybe..13, 14.
He never saw any of his family again, siblings, parents, his village was gone 😢

Thank God he was captured by the usa soldiers, one brought him to the usa.
He became a citizen, married, made a family, a life. ❤ with grandbabies, ans he's since passed, but now great grans babies ❤

At that point Hitler didn’t really care about age anymore he just sending who ever he thought was fit for war and he even sent some injured that still were in recovery

Second kid looks like he is about to cry with fear. These kids are supposed to be living in the safety of their parent’s home. Not forced onto the battlefield of a few lunatics fantasies.
