27.5in Dirt Jumper? The New Specialized P4 #dirtjumper #mountainbiking #bike

The new Specialized P4 is a unique offering that blurs the line between dirt jumper and hardtail mountain bike. The bike has boost rear spacing and uses a 100mm Marzocchi Bomber Z1 instead of the Bomber DJ. Is this a game changer or a gimmick?

Never tried a 27.5 DJ before. I feel like for guys over 6 feet it may feel more natural, but for us guys in the mid 5 foot range I think 26 is still where it's at. The P4 seems like a single speed trail hardtail TBH

I got it, I am 1, 86m. It's still super agile and perfect for nearly every dirt jump type, except it's super techy short bmx style ramps. Rolls fast, nice damped Z1 fork, excellent tyres, super quiet and clean look. I stopped dirt jumping over 15 years ago and only rode Mtb Trail bikes & 300 Hardenduro. So I want something not too small. For me it rides perfect 👌

Good idea for big people or people that want to ride big jumps with a little more control and stability

My current dj is a 27.5 and it is a little big given that I’m 5’11 but its not hard to get used to and is more forgiving on landings in my experience

I got a really small aggressive hardtail with 27.5 before this came out to convert to a dj as im 6'3 at 14 i thought this would be best. Ive got to say it is a great feel i thing the p4 would be even better for 6ft+ people as it is designed for dj unlike my conversion dj 😂

i am 6'5 and have ridden a 26" for a while with very high rise bars. it just feels too small but i love dirt jumping. Do you think the bigger wheels and longer frame would be perfect?

I don’t really understand the hate. Specialized still makes the 26 (P3), 24 (P2) and 20 (P1). So it’s just an extra wheelsize variant to round up their offering.
I personally own P3 and it’s an amazing platform. I don’t like wheels bigger than 26 for this type of bike, that’s why I don’t buy 27.5. Still don’t mind that it’s there.
Why MTB people have a hard one for wheel size? It’s a personal choice, not a religion and it’s good to give people options 😂
Same as with 27.5 vs 29 😅

I wanted to do the same with a commencal meta ht frame and turn it into a dj bike . Single speed, 150-140 fork and a rear brake.

I’ve got the p3 and love the smaller 26 inch wheels for DJ. Have an evo comp 29 er as well and there is a huge difference…not sure I’d enjoy the 27.5 for DJ.

wheelbase is 1.6" difference between p3 and the p4. looking at the specs there isn't much of a difference really. most probably won't notice and you can always swap to 26" wheels later. just bought one today on sale new $1499 on closeout in the silver color. I'm 5'10".

Its suppose to be a big BMX feeling type of bike. 27.5 inch wheels are just oversized for nothing. Im just under 6 feet. I ride a Medium frame size, riser 50mm bar with 26inch wheels and its just fine. If your looking to hit jumps and do tricks. A longer wheelbase isnt want you want. Thats why BMXer's try to get there rear wheel tucked as close to the frame in the dropouts as possible. So many pointless reasons to make this bike. But like everything else these days it will come and go out of tred as soon as people realize there is no advantage to the larger wheels on a dirt jumper. I said the same thing to my local shop and they agreed. 👍👍

Looks awesome!!! I am 6'5" and the P4 sounds great! I would settle for the 26" Tires, but I want the longest top tube possible!

Does going up in wheel size make it closer to a MTB or closer to a DJ with one size up wheels?

Does anyone run a mullet setup in a DJ? Is that a thing, I ride a Kona 26” DJ but have considered swapping out the front tire on trail days for a few possible track runs while there. Pros/cons to this thinking are appreciated!

I really fed up about that industry trend that makes bikes bigger
One of my friend is starting dj and 26” is already too big and long for her… finding good 24” part is a nightmare
And at the end of the day we starting seeing 27, 5” dj which no one ever asked and bring nothing except bad rotations and longer, slacker and more stable bikes which is exactly the opposite of what dirt jump is about

why do you use Z1...? DJ's are better...

I think it's a shame, we should stick to 26 no matter how tall a person is. The industry has compromised the sport in a bad way, don't get me wrong, they can sell what they want but competitions should be strictly 26
