If you're ever in Berlin, come watch Metropolis at the Babylon - they often show it with a live orchestra. It's an excellent experience.

_Metropolis, _ imo, is a must-watch for anyone who loves sci-fi.

It's easy to forget just how amazingly different the city in "Metropolis" was from what viewers were familiar with. These days, a mega-city full of traffic and huge skyscrapers is a trope whose roots we can see around us every day; when this film came out, most of that was barely even a fever dream for the average person almost anywhere in the world.

the moment they got those lost frames/scenes i watched the full movie and holy hell is it good. it blows my mind that it was made during a time when my granny was still using a wood fire stove as a little girl.

Osamu Tezuka, Japan’s God of Manga & Anime, created a 1 Volume Manga of the same name in 1949. Very early in his career. Tezuka’s Metropolis became an Anime film in 2001.

It draws inspiration from Superman, Les Misérables, a 1936 film Invisible Ray, & (more than likely) Fritz Lang’s 1927 Metropolis… Even though at the time Tezuka said he had never watched the latter prior.

Visually, outside of Tezuka’s character designs in the Anime film, it’s a mix of Steampunk & Diselpunk. It’s hard to believe Tezuka didn’t watch Lang’s Metropolis… Maybe stills?

Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed my watches of this post-mortem homage of Tezuka’s work in the early 2000’s. And I highly recommend it. 👍👍

Not sure how available DVDs or BluRays are of it, as it’s likely not on Streaming Services. If it is, please reply to let us know.🙏✨

Some of the special effects in this movie are so unbelievably awesome for the time it was made. It blew my mind watching it for the first time knowing how old it is.

Saw Metropolis in the theaters during the mid 80s. Fred Mercury helped restore, soundtrack and promote. The song “Radio Gaga” uses scenes to tell the story.

I first saw Metropolis in a movie theater when it got the insanely good soundtrack by Giorgio Moroder... it was 1984 it was still an amazing sight to see.
Watched maybe a dozen times more since 😎

Seraph of the end vampires reign ep 1, and some later Code Geas eps reminded me of Metropolis.

Maybe your short will get me to finally watch Akira

Bring back art deco. Such a beautiful but austere look, perfect for classing up a city

Gentle push back. The Grandmother of all Sci-Fi in my opinion is Mary Shelley the author of Frankenstein.

I saw the coloured version of this movie on the 80's, with modern rock and pop music.
And also have the dvd with the restaured version with almost 3 hours. Great classic.

When I first watched this movie on Youtube in high school, I was absolutely blown away by the opening shots of the cityscape. I just couldn’t comprehend that such scenes were in the imaginations of artists and filmmakers in the 1920’s. A legitimate use of the phrase “ahead of their time”
