Why? Because hospitals put majority of filipino nurses in ICUs which is the FRONTLINE that personally interact with covid patients.

Without Filipino nurses, the U.S. health care system would have been paralyzed

Yet most of the ads about nurses being super hero and all that are mostly white or black. You don't really hear filipino nurses being thanked or honored in the media.

There are many many Filipino women who work in the medical field. I hope they take all possible protective measures and RIP to all those that past away 🙏

The Phillipinos that I know take very good care of themselves and their families. There is no way they lack self care thats just that new president of the nurses weird conclusion.

1:24 Filipino nurses “lack self-care”? Then why would the US hire healthcare workers who lack care about their own health? Wouldn’t lack of self-care just translate into the lack or poor care toward their patients? But do Filipino nurses treat their patients/clients poorly (in general)? Are they really that bad as healthcare givers? Or, is there something else that needs exploring? Is there anything lost in translation (as the interview subjects are non-native English speakers). Although sometimes rather than find the truth, it is easy to blame the victim. As it is easy to blame those who died than to truly explore the reasons on their susceptibility to the illness.

That is mainly because filipino nurses are true to their job. Foreign nurses would just quit the job if it is not favorable in their condition.

I am a Filipino/ American nurse, and I had to work during the pandemic from Day 1 to this day when a few cases may occur now and then. It is not because we are lacking self-care. That is a horrendously insensitive racist statement. My wife and I had to take very cold showers in our yard using antiviral and anti-bacterial soap each time we came from work. We also sprayed our shoes, doorways, cars and groceries with bleach on daily basis. Every time we went outside the house, we always had a boxful of masks/N95s and bottles of hand sanitizers. I think the problem was with the N95s. These masks may fit a Filipino face well when it is put on new and then discarded after each use. Those masks were never designed to be reused and recycled. With the crunching low inventory of N95s during the pandemic, hospitals were forced to recycle used masks. N95 masks have a plastic or metal frame that eventually weaken after a certain period of time. Our flatter nasal bridges may not work well with over worn masks, creating a leak between the nasal bridge and the mask frame. This leak can prove fatal if exposed to a fair amount of contaminated air. What I did was to apply surgical tape around the edges of each mask i wore. I also used professional grade eye protection glasses with its edges sealed with gauze, two sets of disposable shoe covers, two layers of isolation gowns, and a disposable hair cover. I could be wrong, that is how I see it.
