Peter Kenny, a building inspector with ISD, walks us through the new checklist of guidelines needed to be met before construction can start now. Each plan must be site-specific. Depending on the size of the project, safety protocols needed will be different.

What is expected is that all plans address 6 focus areas:
- steps taken before shifts start to ensure workers are healthy
- practices to ensure social distancing that can be achieved on the job site
- materials provided to ensure job site hygiene
- protocols for the use of personal protective equipment
- communications and training practices to ensure everyone is informed, and
- procedures in case there is COVID-19 exposure on the job site.

There's construction directly across from our apartment on the corner of Brookline and Fullerton, and the workers practice no social distancing at all. Just yesterday I spotted two men up on a crane, within inches of each other (without masks). So, like all good intentions, it doesn't work unless people commit to doing the right thing. You think the developers care if these workers pass COVID19 along each other? They just want the job DONE. If someone gets sick or gives it to a family member, that's the price of progress, right?
