Our External Antenna keeps getting knocked off the roof of our mobile command center by tree branches. What have others done? If we cover it with a heavy duty welded cage, will this interfere with its use?

What is the official distance from the outside antenna to inside antenna? I read 8 ft however some cars won’t have that type of distance. Also does the trucker antenna already come with the ground on it or do you have to find a metal surface to attach it to like the small magnet antennas?

I'm going to be doing this soon but with a through the roof antennae. Then those trips to the cellular service challenged mountains hopefully won't be so bad. Here is a link to the external antennae I plan on using.
