Struggle with your Backhand? Padel Technique

Despite being one of the first techniques you learn in padel, it is also one of the more difficult to get right. Particularly if you are trying to hit flat (which you should be practicing!!).

In this technical breakdown the steps for each part of the shot are important to get right, because if you forget one it can often end up affecting the whole shot!

Hey Sandy! I have been following your channel for a while now from Spain, I've loved all your videos but i gotta say that I actually dont enjoy these technical breakdown videos as much as those were you take the time to explain the technique yourself. However it is just my opinion! All your videos are very helpful in some way! Greetings :)

Sandy, your new format for the videos with a lot more of 'playing the balls' is mutch better!! Before there was more a theoretic way of explaining padel. Now it's easier to capture/enjoy your learning vid's. Keep up the good work!! You as a commentator WPT... Vamos!!

Hi Sandy, I really appreciate your work, thanks to you I began playing padel. I'd like to ask you a question about my backhand: I come from tennis, so I used to spread my index finger from the other fingers quite a lot in all my shots (I used to play the backhand with two hands). When I started using the 1 handed backhand in padel using the continental grip with the index finger spreaded I struggled A LOT hitting the backhand flat, I always used to chop the ball and to shoot with a lot of spin but with no power at all. Lately I tried to hit the backhand flat by using always a continental grip but with the index not spreaded and with the wrist parallel to the handle of the racket and in this way I manage to hit a good flat backhand. Of course using this technique I have to adjust my grip a little bit when I want to use this flat backhand. I would like to ask you if this adjustment of the grip may be a problem by playing at a higher level. Thank you and keep it up!!

Great video. Sharing already. Could you do one for the drop shot? It is a more advanced move, but very useful.
And thank you for taking the time to engage with the comments we leave! Keep it up!

Hello Sandy, I have two questions please:
First question is: should we swing the wrist while hitting the ball to increase the output power? (I can see that you didn’t swing your wrist in this video)

Second question: while preparation for the backhand hit, exactly just before the hand with the rack is released from the non-dominating hand to go to hit the ball, should the non-dominating hand holds the racket tight to make something like charging the hit so when the racket is released, it goes fast and with more power and acceleration?

Glad if you can answer my question 😊

Thanks for another good video! Could you please do a video on how to return balls that bounce up a bit higher, say about chest/head height. I find those tricky, because they are too high for normal forehand/backhand technique and too low for overheads.

Hi Sandy. Just starting with padel after years and years of squash. Never had any problems with the backhand before but in padel much more uncertain of the stroke.
When taking back the racket I tend to want a lower position of the blade since when I have a higher, a bit like yours, I tend to slice the backhand. Could you straighten me out how to address the racket position? Thx for all your videos outstanding work.💪

Nice video! I notice in all your technical breakdowns that you keep your eyes on the ball until the point of contact. When I'm about to hit a ball coming towards me, at some point during the trajectory I freeze my vision forward on the spot where I plan to hit the ball and therefore not watching the impact itself. In most cases it works fine, but sometimes I miss the shot completely, other times hitting with the racket frame (because of not having turned my racket in the continental grip). Do you know if this is common? I believe that this bad habit is hard to break
