“From the Perspective of the Moon” - Filmprojekt der Kindernothilfe zur Klimakrise

"From the Perspective of the Moon" ist ein Videokunstprojekt über die Klimakrise von Jugendlichen und jungen Erwachsenen aus Pakistan, Südafrika, Kenia, Italien und Deutschland. Der Film basiert auf dem gleichnamigen Gedicht von Victoria Alonso, die das Gedicht 2019 im Alter von 17 Jahren für das Poesieprojekt "Climate Speaks" in New York City geschrieben hat.

Durch einen geschickten Perspektivwechsel wirft das Gedicht im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes ein Licht auf die Zerstörung, die der Mensch auf seinem Planeten und seinem Klima anrichtet. Es findet jedoch auch Hoffnung in den Stimmen der jüngeren Generation, die eine Rettung der Umwelt fordern, und stellt sich eine bessere Zukunft für den Planeten Erde und die Menschheit vor: “That her future will be saved / Soon enough”.

In einem hybriden Workshop-Format übersetzten die Teilnehmer das Gedicht Zeile für Zeile in ihre lokalen Kontexte und machten sich den Text mit verschiedenen künstlerischen und stilistischen Mitteln zu eigen. Mit Hilfe von Performance, Installation, Zeichnung, Fotografie, Graffiti, Street Art und Kalligrafie verwandelten die jungen Aktivisten Victoria Alons' Gedicht in eine farbenfrohe Bildsprache, die die persönliche Bedeutung der Klimakrise für jeden von ihnen offenbart. Das Ergebnis ist ein transnationales kollaboratives Videokunstwerk mit einer globalen Perspektive und einer klaren Botschaft: Die Klimakrise ist real und betrifft jeden auf diesem Planeten.

Ein Film von jungen Klimaaktivisten aus Pakistan, Südafrika, Kenia, Italien und Deutschland: Tani, Jamil, Sophia, Alicia, Isabell, Nele, George, Sina, Fateh, Giulia, Zainab, Christopher und Julia. Das Gedicht wurde von Alicia vorgetragen.

Dieses Projekt wurde im Rahmen der Kindernothilfe-Jugendkonferenz zum Thema "Klimagerechtigkeit" vom 15. bis 17. September 2023 in Duisburg, Deutschland, durchgeführt.

“From the Perspective of the Moon” is a video art project about the climate crisis by youth and young adults from Pakistan, South Africa, Kenya, Italy and Germany. The film is based on the poem of the same name by Victoria Alonso, who wrote the poem in 2019 at the age of 17 for the poetry project “Climate Speaks” in New York City.

Through a clever shift in perspective, the poem quite literally shines a light on the destruction humans are wreaking on their planet and its climate. However, it finds hope in the voices of the younger generation calling for environmental salvation, and envisions a brighter future for planet Earth and humanity: “That her future will be saved / Soon enough”.

Working together in a hybrid workshop format, both in person and remotely, participants translated the poem line by line into their local contexts and made the text their own through various artistic and stylistic means. Using performance, installation, drawing, photography, graffiti, street art, and calligraphy, the young activists transformed Victoria Alons’s poem into a colorful visual language that reveals the personal relevance of the climate crisis to each of them. The result is a transnational collaborative video artwork with a global perspective and a clear message: the climate crisis is real and affects everyone on this planet.
