As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases from links posted in my description & comments section. The Nintendo 64 original controller has a flaw in that the analogue stick wears away and causes it to go limp and not work as well as it originally did new. There have been plenty of options, but today we are going to replace just the parts that are prone to wearing with new close to OEM parts from Kitsch-Bent and see how the controller performs!

Fixed four of my childhood controllers this way earlier this year. The controllers were so bad that on two of them you couldn't move at full speed, no matter how hard you pressed on the stick. Took a lot of tinkering, but after a while with these parts I was able to get all four feeling pretty much BRAND NEW!

Definitely worth it and I definitely recommend this! It's cheap and effective.

This video is very helpful but the guy wastes so much time. Cut that all out, this did NOT need to be 18 minutes long. It confuses people. Just do the repair please. I made this comment so that people could hopefully have an easier time with this. Please, add this to the chapters of the video. Thank you.

PSA: If you managed to order some parts, specifically the bowls: make sure you make the hole to where you connect the spinning gears to the part that is hanging to the bowl a tad bigger so that you can make the gears spin at ease. You can either drill a 1.25-1.5 mm hole or get a micro scrrw driver and make the hole bigger. Without that, your stick will tend to drift on the y axis and on the x axis your stick will refuse to reset to neutral, especially if you go left. I learned the hard way, and almost broke the controller from having to take it apart countless times.

I think I posted about Kitsch-bent multiple times in these kinds of videos. Love em. Although now I wish I could get my hand on a Steel Stick.

TOP TIP! You can re-centre the analog stick in any N64 game by pressing L, R & Start at the exact same time. I sell alot of these N64 parts in the UK.

I'm legitimately surprised I never noticed this video. I really like this, with the Steel Sticks being so hard to get and also crazy expensive this kind of kit can be very nice if you need good readily available replacement parts on the cheap. Sure they're still made of plastic, but they're brand new and the prices speak for themselves. I'll probably grab some myself, my personal N64 controller isn't too bad yet but having parts ready to go sounds nice if and when my N64 stick does eventually fail. Also nice to have the parts around when I find extra controllers that have broken sticks, nothing feels better than getting a great deal on broken controllers you know you can fix. :)

just a few days ago i opened up a n64 controller cuz it was impossible to play whit it.
i cleaned and lubrified it. now it's a little bit better and i did a 16 star run without any big problem. btw i'll surely buy one of those kits as soon as possible.

Kitsch-Bent rocks! I ordered 2 sets of gears, bowls, and glow in the dark thumb sticks. They arrived within 5 days of my order. Plus they have a year end sale right now so I saved a buck and some change :) I can also see from your video I put the small black screws in the wrong place. So thanks!

Thankyou your video helped me heaps, I had 4 joysticks that were terribly loose, just ordered 4 sets of gears only, watched four video and I have just completed one! Thankyou!

I got these parts when they restocked about a month ago, and bought extra! Love it! Especially since I can use the original controller and not have to worry about shitty 3rd party joysticks. It does feel a little soft compared to the OG stick. But as long as deadzones are fine then I don't care.

Semen on my N64 Controller? I hate it when that happens!

A friend of mine had a spare kit laying around that he never got around to installing so he gave it to me since they're sold out at the moment. It's a bit tight and can get stuck in some spots close to center, which I heard can be fixed, it's such a good way to replace the parts!

Wow! These joysticks are far more complicated than i thought. I’ve opened and repaired/replaced so many parts in assorted consoles, but never an N64 joystick. Until now that is lol. Just dusted the old girl off and it’s been my go to for a few weeks now, but I’ve noticed my best controller is getting pretty floppy. Just put my order in for some replacement parts! We’ll see how this goes.

great video. I bought these parts a little over a year ago and had the same exact issue you did. Stick wouldn't be exactly centered and would get that Mario creeping effect. It would also get stuck in some corners. I didn't have a file small enough to try anything so I just put it together thinking it would eventually wear in properly. I never did go back to it lol. I'm glad you had a fix for it though!

Does anyone know when the bowls and gears will be available again?

always though this stick is junk, but turns out it easier to repair than the cap sticks. thx for the link.

If your stick isn't completely gone if you apply a small amount of heat to the black gear thingy that goes in the bowl. Apply the heat and just squeeze them lightly in the center it will tighten up the stick if its not to far gone
