What Bill has said is absolutely correct. I had the same thoughts before. I have waited for a while for Bill’s picture of competition. But today I am kind of changing my mind. Nvidia has accumulated a great experience of designing chips for graphics display for many years. The new players who want to entry the area may not be as easy as Bill’s thought. The same way happens to Taiwan Semiconductor Corporation (TSM). Intel, Samsung, and IBM know how to make advanced chips. But only TSM knows how to make the advanced chips in an efficient way and cheap enough for a commercial value. The key is not the advanced chip. Instead the key is the proprietary processes of making those advanced chips.

The same way to Nvidia the key is its proprietary design of the chips. It is difficult for the new players to copy soon.

So I believe both Nvidia and TSM will continue to fend off competition for a while.

Nvidia is about 10 years ahead in its chip design. They got the jump on Intel, AMD and the like. Add CUDA and their moat while not impenetrable is quite formidable. Finally trying to catch up to Nvidia is akin to thoroughbreds trying to catch Secretariat.
