I'm willing to water the disc was a type of information receiver, or part of one. Looks very similar to a parabolic disc, although without the convex shape. I wonder if obsidian has any piso-electric properties or potential usages?

Shivkar Bāpuji Talpade (1864 – 1916) was an Indian instructor in the Sir JJ School of Art with an interest in Sanskrit and in aviation. He lived in Mumbai, and is claimed to have constructed and flown an unmanned,  heavier-than-air aircraft in 1895 in front of large crowd including local king & british viceroy. The king assured him to help him financially but did nothing.
But he was a poor fellow & crook Britishers somehow managed to buy his formula on the pretext that they will make it popular in whole world ( IN HIS NAME) . As ithen India was under British Rule. But the formula reached to Wright Brothers & took the credit of aeroplane inventors.
