🔍 So, what exactly do we mean by 'helping' and 'enabling'?

Helping: Providing support that encourages growth, responsibility, and self-sufficiency in our adult children.

Enabling: Unintentionally shielding adult children from consequences, hindering their responsibility and growth.

🎯 Impact of Helping:

Facilitated Growth: Empowering personal, emotional, and psychological development.

Empowerment: Fostering self-esteem and autonomy, crucial for navigating adulthood.

Strengthened Relationships: Building trust, understanding, and healthier family connections.

🔥 Impact of Enabling:

Stunted Growth: Preventing emotional and psychological development.
Dependency: Hindering self-sufficiency and confidence.

Strained Relationships: Strain on parent-child relationships and overall family dynamics.

🚀 Balancing Helping and Enabling:

Positive Impact: Fostering growth, self-esteem, and relationships.
Healthy Boundaries: Setting limits to encourage growth without dependency.

Communication: Open dialogues for tailored support aligned with goals.
🚀 Real-life Scenarios:

1. Financial Support: Juggling between providing immediate relief and fostering financial responsibility.

2. Relationship Issues: Navigating between being a supportive parent and allowing emotional growth in challenging relationships.

Great examples. I like the question you gave to ask yourself before you make the decision.

"Oh mom we can't seem to make them here in England, they go soggy so quickly, but thanks for the mixer". "Mom we . "OK my and I'm a right royal SUCKER because we've been giving and giving and now that we've stopped he is upset.

This video helped me to understand where I am enabling my child. I really needed this. The fact that Sally understands the impulse to help your child and she’s given me hope I can interact at a more useful level with my child.
