To sum up the last bit, son fired both of them and the family was told not to hire either of them at their restaurants. One of the girls did not understand "all 12" and ended up putting applications in at one of the other locations. She was not hired

Treat people with kindness, no matter how they look

I love how instead of giving them money, he taught them how to earn it themselves while also supporting them, handing down his own business and teaching them how to run it for themselves

My sixth grade teacher was homeless as a kid living in homeless shelters and not eating much he learnt how to be grateful for the things he had what an amazing teacher

I just imagined the look on their face. Just when they hear their boss, call you dad.Just the look of pure mortification, because they know they're losing their job

I told my niece every job deserves respect, especially janitors and sanitation workers because they keep conditions clean. Then showed her pictures of New York during the garbage strike. She's a sweet kid.

You teach people at a young age you treat the janitor as you would the CEO. you never know who is who plus being kind is free

I’ll never understand bottom tier workers at fancy places judging a customer.

I used to seat this homeless man. No one ever wanted to take him because he usually paid in a iou. The other servers didn't like the possibility of him not coming back to pay. But he always came back by the end of my shift with payment for the meal. We were a fairly cheap family-owned business I got in as a server because i knew the owners son. The owner once asked me what I was going to do if he didn't come back, this was around the second time i took him. I told the owner if he didn't come back he could take it out of my paycheck. I never knew why they made such a big fuss, his meal was always $6.58. sure I didn't make all that much at the restaurant but kindness potentially costing me seven bucks didn't feel like too high of a price to pay. The man only didn't pay once and he came back the next day at the start of my shift and gave me the money with an apology. I had actually been more worried that something happened to him and less worried about if he was going to pay me because he had never not come back before. I stopped working at that restaurant after a high risk pregnancy. I hope he's doing okay and eating good meals.

from my experience, really rich people don't wear fancy clothes. they do not need to impress anyone. so they can choose to wear comfortable clothes or whatever they want.

“My coworker” is a very generous way to address someone like that…

Honestly, as someone who worked in restaurants for 8 years as a chef, i always told new wait staff to accept everyone. Turned out one of the girls prefered men and women nicely dressed while another always took the "rough/homeless" looking ones because her coworkers snubbed them.

She got the most tips since 90% of those "homeless/rough" looking people owned businesses and shared them with me [i always tried to refuse btw] because i gave her the tip to accept everyone 😂
