Honey, you have ALL the authority to talk about ADHD!! I have ADHD and your way of planning helped me cope with my problems for years!

I was just diagnosed with ADHD in Jan… at 51 years old. I say do whatever you need to keep the thoughts orderly! I truly believe finding some sort of ‘management’ is half the battle! 🥰

I was diagnosed with ADHD at 25. I found that I really need to break down tasks and projects to a very granular step-by-step list. Which does seem overkill to a lot of people but it helps me not forget important steps for complex processes and also my brain sees all the individual tasks as their own thing, rather than just the one main task.

My biggest thing I’ve learned since learning how to work with and not against ADHD is to do what makes life easier for me and not worry about how that compares to what other people need to do. Easier said than done but always goes better when I do!

For anyone that is super busy at work and need to communicate effectively with your manager how you are accomplishing your tasks and why so there is so much more to This method works really well.
Not ADHD, but my Dean was like you should have enough time to do all the things. After presenting him the daily interactions in my day from, emails, meetings... office team, student team I managed, meeting with clubs about their events, reviewing their event activity requests and approving, training clubs on the college rules, setting up travel, helping clubs put in their events, running campus wide student events like movie day with popcorn, welcome back to campus, mid term and finals treats. My days were jammed packed. I barely had time for a lunch let alone a comfort break in the restroom... lol😂😂😂 he finally got it. Oh and I still had to approve the work my student employees did for posters for clubs, putting up and taking down posters❤

I LOOOOVE your ADHD planner. I love it so much I got a little baby planner myself so I could do the same thing. It reminds me of a period of my life last year when I was so completely stressed out and overwhelmed that I did something like this, including details like "walk upstairs" and "brush teeth, " "get dressed, " "walk downstairs, " "eat lunch, " etc. Because I just couldn't even think once my day got going. An ADHD friend of mine (who is also a life coach) called it "externalizing your executive function" which was a wonderful way of describing it, and made me feel less embarrassed. It was a kindness to myself to do that thinking ahead of time. I really love your way of doing it. I got a little A6 hobonichi graph notebook because I'm currently addicted to Tomoe River paper lol.

Fellow ADHD-er here, and YES! My planning system (figure out my to-do list in the morning, redo it in Sunsama so it syncs with my calendar and gives me notifications, and then write down what I'm working on in addition to that) would be ridiculously redundant to many people, but it helps me run my business and keep my life (mostly) together, which is all that matters!

As a person with ADHD that does this level of organization to stay on task this was amazing to see. That brown ink of yours is incredible!

That ADHD journal makes complete sense to me. It basically looks like you’ve looked at your cousin to-do list and spread them out into steps. We need the extra help with breaking things down and keeping focused. Congrats on your diagnosis and I really hope you find great support to manage with your ADHD (hope it’s okay to say that ☺️). I personally need a list too, but I know it doesn’t work for everyone. My difference is I can’t have multiple lists in multiple books, but I love how we’re all finding things that work for us. ❤

I have lists upon lists and post its and notebooks BECAUSE I have adhd and writing and rewriting helps me cope and remember. Having a “today I did” list where I write down all the little things I did helps me feel like I accomplished something vs a to do list where I migrate everything haha

Writing down your tasks (emails multiple times) and checking them off also helps give you dopamine when you finish the task each time (which those of us with ADHD struggle with). 👀

I love your reading journal. As a writer and a reader, I hate to see people consume books like they are fast food and reduce pages of storytelling to just a star grading system. Your thoughtfulness about everything you do is so inspiring!

I never would have guessed that you had ADHD. As an ND brain myself I always thought you were so highly functioning, so organised, so determined and driven, so reliable and consistent; it never occurred to me that you might be struggling with that. Lots of love to you Helen, getting a diagnosis must be such a relief. So much admiration for you.💓

I tried your ADHD journal method this week- SO HELPFUL. What a game changer! I have the same issue- ADHD/anxiety, jumping around from task to task getting nothing done. Writing down everything in order helped so much. Thank you for sharing

Fellow ADHD’er here! Love your share on your adhd approach. I would say don’t limit yourself to how much you share. No one thinks you’re a doctor saying what they should do, but that these are working, or may not work for your brain. People will take what they need, and leave what they don’t.

I do something very similar. If I see my full to do list in front of me, I hit task paralysis and shut down. So I brain dump in an inbox that I then close so I don’t see it lol each day I list my top three tasks / deadlines for the day then go get more tasks as time allows from my next actions lists. I am going to try your habit of marking when you take breaks. My one thing with my adhd is when I hyper focus, I could go hours and not come up for air. That’s not healthy either. So striving for a few break marks a day in my list, might be good motivation. Thanks for sharing!

As a stay at home mom dealing with serious medical issues (mine and kids), home schooling, gardening, and preparing food according to special dietary needs; this little ADHD planner system is not only helping me be more effective, but has improved my outlook! I can quickly look and see where my time went. Thank you!

Ooh I love your ADHD planner! I'll often write "the next three things" (that I'm going to do) on random post-it notes, etc. but I kind of like the idea of seeing the little successes adding up! I think I would have to be really committed to only writing what I am definitely going to do on this list (save the aspirational to-dos or reminders of things that aren't actionable yet for another location), so it would stay manageable and approachable, and maybe after a while of seeing things getting done, it would build some self-trust and be a positive thing that helps me know I can do things! I just pulled out a Hobonichi Weeks memo notebook to try it out!

I use something like your ADHD planner too! I call it my game plan or my OOO list (order of operations). It really does make life so much easier because it puts those details down in a solid way and makes switching from one thing to the next way easier
