RAICES: Migration is a Human Right

The presentation also provides a snapshot of a family's life once they are released from detention and await a decision on their immigration case. We hope to highlight the issues surrounding the current, broken immigration system and how you can help advocate for migrants.
Speaker Bio:
Miriam is originally from Laredo, Texas and is a proud daughter of two Mexican immigrants. Miriam Camero has a Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Arts, and Masters of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin. After leaving Austin, Texas, she received a Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Houston Law Center. Miriam has helped serve clients from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law's Immigration and Domestic Violence Clinics. Miriam was also an Americorps Member and was placed in Communities in Schools' Eastside Memorial High School where she helped vulnerable, at-risk youth stay in school and succeed in life. Currently, Miriam is the Vice President for the Social Programs Department at RAICES where she oversees the Case Management program, Canopy Hotline, and Client Cash Assistance program. Lastly, Miriam is a member of the Human Rights Committee for the National Association of Social Work - Texas Chapter.
