How to write a Persuasive paragraph

This video teaches how to write a persuasion paragraph.
It demonstrates what persuasion is by providing an example.

The purpose of a persuasion paragraph is to get the reader to agree that the opinion or claim of the writer is correct or valid. You, (the writer), have to convince the reader to see the topic from your point of view. Therefore, writers of persuasive essays rely heavily on human emotions.

Step 1: Choose a topic: Climate change

Step 2: Brainstorm points for both sides of the issue

Step 3: Write your Topic sentence (state your opinion)
In your topic sentence state your opinion about what you believe about the topic and the side you support.
Climate change is a global threat, as extreme weather conditions sweep across the globe leaving people and animals vulnerable.

Step 4: Write your supporting sentences:

• Give reasons to support your opinion
• Give examples to support your opinion
• State facts that can support your opinion
• Use quotations or expert opinion

Step 5: – Appeal to your audience
Your purpose is to convince your readers that your point of view is worthy of consideration.
Ask yourself?
• Who is my audience? (students, teachers, parents, general public)
• Does my voice appeal to my audience?
• Does my tone reflect my message?
• Have I used specific nouns and strong verbs?

Step 6: Write your Concluding sentence
Provide a summary sentence that convinces, motivates or moves readers to accept your opinion. You could use a call to action.

Step 7– Check for Unity and Coherence

Ensure that all sentences refer back to your topic sentence. To strengthen the flow, repeat key words or phrases and use transitions to link sentences.

Step 8 – Always proofread

Below is your sample Persuasive paragraph

All Onboard for Climate Change.

Climate change is a global threat, as extreme weather conditions sweep across the globe leaving people and animals vulnerable. To illustrate, in 2018, heavy rains, heat waves, the Osaka earthquake and the Jabi typhoon in Japan left many dead and caused economic devastation. Furthermore, in the Philippines the passage of typhoons across the country left death and destruction. In addition, in 2018, Germany suffered from the most severe heat wave in its history leaving many dead and more than 340 million dollars in damage to the agricultural sector. In particular, in the island of Madagascar, the prolonged drought has left river beds dry and children dying of hunger. Additionally, the survival of the lemur and other animal species on the island are threatened. Also, in many countries around the world people are affected by higher annual flooding due to rising sea levels. Clearly, if we do not take bold collective action to end deforestation, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and bring an end to the burning of fossil fuels such as oil, gas, and coal, we will be like the dinosaurs.
