Part 2: Gameplay Reviews

This is part two of my series retrospective for Adventure Island, this time analyzing the NES original and its two revivals (Japan only Hudson Selection Vol. 4 for the GameCube, and Adventure Island: The Beginning for Wii). Which one holds up best today? Having played all three, I’ll be pitting each version against themselves to choose the definitive Adventure Island experience.

In the next video, I’ll review fan favorites 2 and 3, as well as the lesser-known New Adventure Island (TurboGrafx-16) and the first SNES outing. Learn more about the ever-interesting Hudson Soft executive Takahashi Meijin, and what makes these games so special for a generation.

I would like to point out that the Castle Levels in the remakes are more based on those from the "New Adventure Island" game, where every 4th level is a Castle Stage; except World 7 which is just a Castle Stage in of itself.
Also, if you haven't noticed from the "Adventure Island: the Beginning" trailer you were playing in the background at 12:21: You can see the name of the supposed "Witch Doctor": King Quiller. In Wonder Boy, his name is Dracon, according to the Game Game port "Revenge of Dracon". So that would mean the Evil Witch Doctor King's full name is King Dracon Quiller.

Great video! This series is what eventually discover the history of it, Mr. Takahashi's fame, as well as become the fan of Wonder Boy/Monster World series.
I like to inform you that in last February, Mr. Takahashi had celebrated his 35th Anniversary debut into video game world so to speak & release his new free-to-play button-mash challenge mobile game to accomodate it for Japan-only audiences.

thank god we're past this "restart the entire game" bullshit, i never figured out the former trick as a kid which put me off a lot of mario's earlier games for a while, and i never would've figured out the latter
