Quad Foreign Ministers Vow to Bolster Maritime Security in Indo-Pacific | Quad Meeting in Tokyo

Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, collectively known as the Quad, reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region on Monday (July 29). Meeting in Tokyo, the four nations outlined plans to enhance partner nations' ability to monitor maritime activity through satellite data, training, and capacity building. Expressing deep concern over China's increasing assertiveness in the South China Sea, the Quad condemned Beijing's militarisation of disputed territories and its aggressive behaviour towards other nations. The group specifically cited recent confrontations between Chinese and Philippine vessels as a prime example of this troubling trend. While a preliminary agreement to de-escalate tensions has been reached between China and the Philippines, the Quad remains vigilant.
