For gear ratio the most important part of it is the overall line length retrieval per crank plus the slower is better for more torque due to less teeth thus deeper intact with pinion which results in much more torque, more suited for bottom fishing and big game in general . Higher gear ration better for surf fishing n in this case be sure u have a good quality reel as the smaller teeth of the main gear r more prone to go bad easily n remember it won't serve u enough if the overall line retrieval is small, more bearings is much preffered for long durability n smoothness under load .
