What happened was the music industry changed the type of music that was popular and he couldn’t keep up. The Music industry was transitioning into trap music for both hip hop and r&b. He couldn’t make songs that fit that sound. That is what happened to many artists that were out during the mid 2000s. As the music evolved they couldn’t keep up with it. The music of today is terrible but it is popular because no one wants to challenge it. I used to work at def jam records as an intern before being promoted to work in the artist development/promotions department. I saw a lot of stuff that back in the early 2000s had me shake my head
