For centuries, Confucius was arguably the most influential philosopher and teacher in the history of China and perhaps of East Asia. His teachings focussed on moral aspects of humanity such as virtue, filial piety, wisdom, etiquette, righteousness, loyalty, and harmony. After denouncing Confucius and his teachings during the Cultural Revolution, the Chinese communist authorities are now turning to Confucius to help sustain its totalitarian rule at home and to gain influence overseas through installing the so-called Confucius institutes on foreign soil. Let us explore who Confucius truly was and why Beijing is using his name for its influence operations overseas.

Confucius was scared to death of slave revolts and hated them all his life. Once there was a large slave insurrection in the state of Zheng, and the slave owners ruthlessly slaughtered the revolting slaves. With a murderous look on his face, Confucius with a continuous cry howled something like, “We’re so magnanimous toward our slaves, and now they just want to revolt. It would be better to seriously suppress them because only then would we be able to destroy this problem root and branch!” This completely lays bare his vile countenance when it comes to his opposition to revolution.

At ~10 min you speak of the propagandists today improperly using Confucius' teachings and my question is, as I am still dragging ass, and have not purchased that book yet, are there improper translations of the work that I need to look out for?

Distorting Confucian teachings in that way is absolutely abhorrent! Such manipulation.
