Originally I thought sweet bod was just a song commenting on someone looking good but not sexually. It took me way too many listenings to realize what it's actually about.

*He left a mansion full of other people's skulls
*They never found his own skull
*He left strange symbols on the floor beneath his body (The wood was burned)
*They found a lot of scorpions in his lungs
*The statues of his missing children cried (they later found out it was his blood)
*They telephoned his wife, but her voice faded to nothing and then they heard a laughing record
*They found a message etched into his spine ("When he dies, an endless age of untold nightmares will be nigh, and the blood will make the seas run red.")
*A nearby shed caught fire, in the shed they found a painting of a clown he painted when he was a child, on the back it said exactly when he died

I made the mistake of introducing my 8 year old little brother to Lemon Demon music, and now I have to teach him what songs he can and can't play in the living room like a parent teaching their child about cuss words

Fun Fact: Most of the songs from Nature Tapes were originally going to be bonus tracks in Spirit Phone (including BRODYQUEST, My Trains, Two Trucks, Jaws, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Really Cool Wig). A Mask of my Own Face was actually going to be in the main tracks. But, I guess Neil thought that Spirit Phone had a certain aesthetic that those songs didn't fit in. So, he created Nature Tapes as a sort of bonus album.

fun fact: a couple of these were originally intended to be intro / outro songs for cartoons! neil’s sister, emmy, is one of the people who worked on gravity falls, so neil had the opportunity to write both an intro and outro song for the show. gravitron was originally the outro song, and i don’t think the intro has been made public, but one of the lines from it was remixed into moon’s request. also, pizza heroes was an intro concept for a hypothetical cartoon emmy came up with, where there was this pizza delivery service that could deliver to anywhere in the world in a matter of seconds.

I love how almost every song is ancient beings and occult horror and then theres "as your father I expressly forbid it" and "I earn my life" which is straightup bad parenting and capitalism
