His Excellency Jose C. Laurel V, Philippine Ambassador to Japan, shares the recent developments on the Philippines-Japan ties and the significance of the Participation of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the 25th International Conference on the Future of Asia in Tokyo, Japan on May 31, 2019.
The Chief Executive is set to deliver a keynote address for the Nikkei-led forum that annually convenes government leaders, business executives, and academics from the Asia-Pacific region to discuss their assessments on the regional issues and the role of Asia to the world.
According to Ambassador Laurel, the Philippines and Japan share an amiable and mutually beneficial partnership in different areas of cooperation such as security and defense, economic aspect, and tourism, among others.
Ambassador Laurel is the grandson of the Philippines’ former President Jose P. Laurel (1943-1945) and son of former Philippine Ambassador to Japan Jose Laurel III (1966-1971). He was appointed as the Philippine Ambassador to Japan on September 2016.
The Filipino envoy used to serve as the Chairperson of the Philippines-Japan Friendship Foundation’s Board of Trustees prior to his appointment. He is an awardee of The Outstanding Young Person of the World Award (for Public Administration) by Jaycees International in 1984, and The Outstanding Young Man of the Philippines Award (for Public Administration) by the Philippines Jaycees in 1983.
