Funny enough been looking at finding the fastest hashing algorithms for checking if two files are the same. Recovered a load of files with not all backed up (memes etc.) and trying to come up with a good ways of tackling this.
Current process is > file type > file size > hash to check if they are the same. As with any good project I am down a rabbit hole already and looking for more perfectly acceptable hashes to ponder while more of my spinning rust fails.

Testing it out on a Fedora ISO, I see that the b2sum command is faster than the sha512sum command by 0.439 seconds.

I was originally skeptical of the project, and am still skeptical of the focus on extremely closed unmaintainable hardware, but Asahi is great work all the same and a great example of how perseverance in the free software community allows entirely unreasonable things to be done. It's a great work and improving by leaps all the time.

What's the point? A short hash like md5sum is better to compare visually. There's typically no evil cryptographer in your PC trying to make you think you got identical files
