1:32 the reason the hood ornament moves like that if for federally mandated pedestrian safety.. it's so if you hit someone and the 2 tons of Lincoln doesn't kill them, the hood ornament doesn't pierce them.
2:20 the spare tire hump is literally called the continental kit.
6:30 not a tape deck it's a ford quadraphonic 8-track player.

Most of these aren't that quirky, but were pretty much standard in or available with everything. Standard features with most cars of that time were the cable attached hood ornament, sliding rear emblem to get to the trunk release, floor dimmer switch, headlight doors, and things that were optional were things like the CB and the mirror thermometer. None of these are particularly special, with the exception of the fibre optic turn signals.

The Mark V is a massive car with a massive story. Thanks for being so dedicated to these old Fords. It’s nice to be in great company. You’d be surprised to learn the side vents on the next generation were fake. I enjoyed your video and make some of my own with similar features. PS. Even my 8-Track radio actually works.

That, "Port Hole Window" was called an "Opera Window".
Cartier is pronounced: Car'-tee-ay

Lost the forest for the trees there... yes, it's got a quadraphonic 8 track player, but that's in a DIGITAL am/fm stereo. It's 1979. That's *extremely* high tech for the time.

Maybe it was optional, but look around on the floor above the high beam switch and you might find another one. If it's there, it's a radio seek button.

Also didn't mention the vacuum operated parking brake release. You take it out of park, and the brake releases. There's a little finger catch if that's not working (engine's off, etc.)

The brake booster on these was hydraulic. Your power brakes are run from the power steering pump, which is why it groans if you press the brakes too hard.

Love the video definitely cool car! And one of my favorite cars from Lincoln! They had a lot of nice features, but Cadillac had plenty as well like automatic dimming headlights, power trunk pull down, auto leveling control, air suspension, power antenna, heated seats, and twilight sentinel which was some standard features dating back to 1950 such as the 1957 Cadillac Eldorado! Cadillac and Lincoln even had an available trip computer back in 1978 and the Seville for 1978 had an available digital display cluster on select models as well as electronic fuel injection!

I love the click of the high beam switch

How do so many people not know about the dimmer switch on the floor? That was a thing on just about every vehicle up until the 80s or 90s.

The oval glass window is called an opera window. The Lincoln Badge is no where found on the Continental Marks therefor they are referred to as a Continental. It's nice your clock still works. It's a nice looking car!

What you didn't mention was the foot switch inboard of the high beam switch. It is used to change radio stations !

Wow, we got to get you around some old cars (or old car guys). Those are called opera windows, not port holes. Lots of cars back then had them. My two door 78 Ford Grenada had them as did my 1976 two door Dodge Aspen Special Edition (really not very special) All Lincolns have the "Cornering Light" . It comes on to light the way when you turn. It is very helpful in parking lots. I have three of the last Lincoln Town Cars made and they all have it as well. Those are not pop up headlights, those are "pop up headlight doors" The headlights do not move. Corvette had "pop up headlights" All cars pre-late 80's had the high beam switch on the floor, they even used the same switch, Ford, GM, AMC, Chrysler. Nice and easy. Lastly, all pre-airbag cars had thin steering wheels.

It wasn't ridiculous, I had a '79 I didnt have a thermometer on the driver side. I did have heated mirrors. When the winter kicks in. I have the heater on, my mirrors turn on and melts the snow.

This guy must of been born in a cave. All that was normal in the 70s. Chrysler. GM and Ford all had those accessories.
