I use track delay a lot, it's also useful when layering breaks.

It’s really not humanising it misses randomness it’s still robotic but just a bit off beat

I like this. Has the timing looser, like it was back in the day on hardware drum machines synced to midi clock, where jitter was present and timing wasn't 100% to the grid, like it is nowadays, in a DAW.

This is good advice but I would nudge the MIDI/audio instead of using the track delay. Easier workflow when samples play exactly as they appear in your arrangement

I seriously manually shifted my samples on the track itself to get this effect.. thank you for showing this !

I usually just play my drums on midi controller to make it sound more human

Add an LFO to the delay and put an offset so it doesnt go offbeat too much.

Beware that negative track delay will introduce latency

For people using other daws just zoom in on the timeline and drag the sample a few milliseconds to the left or right to offset the transients of the sample.

Pretransient is the goat tier drum programmers best friend!

So much more groove with this trick. Keep in mind, guys that any track delays increase latency, which you will be effected by when recording anything while monitoring through your daw. Even negative delays will add latency. Not a reason to not use this technique, but very useful to be aware of.

Nice! Playing with swing percentages can be a real game changer too. Also using subdivisions to make the beat.

An LFO spitting out random numbers could get hooked up somewhere in a DAW to adjust timing, volume, almost anything. They can run like analog hardware if you want them to.

I like that funkadelic techno wizardry!!

This is what is totally new to me. Gonna be using this trick on my brakes from now.

If you really wanto to humanize with random offsets each time. Use the delay effect. Turn up the dry/wet to max. Then turn down the feedback to minimum. Then you can automate that feedback in a random shape throughout, lets say an 8 bar. Copy & paste. Done! (I always use this in claps or snare)

Track Delay induces latency. When u play some pianos and synths then be aware.

Best explanation as to why I need to start using this tool. 👌

This. I purposely drag or rush some notes on the piano roll to make it more human like. Huge difference

I love this idea of humanising the layers
