How I made a climbing film 🧗🏽‍♀️

Just to reiterate, this isn't me trying to tell you how to make a climbing film (as I'm sure there are SO MANY ways to do it!), it's more of an inside look of what I found works for my specific situation as a climber-YouTuber. I'm kinda stumbling and bumbling forward in this YouTube space and enjoying the creativity of filmmaking and all the new opportunities I have!! I never would have thought I'd be producing and directing AND climbing in adventure films... what is even happening hahaha.

I asked the internet if a behind the scenes video would even be interesting (in my head I'm like, okay I'm about to NERD OUT here) and a lot of people seemed at least slightly interested.... GOOD ENOUGH for me! lol. Enjoy!

The thing that got me watching your videos was that you always show your emotions. In the first video I watched you cried after sending a climb because it was so scary and I love that you share that side of climbing (and of yourself). Keep up the good work!

Dear future sponsors, pls give Anna a sh*t ton of funding so that she can continue to get out there and be her amazing self in cool places… and capture it for us all! Dear Anna, great work. It’s interesting to see how much hard work is done behind the scenes.

The project funding and sponsor pitching segment was incredibly insightful, and I’m amazed you’re one of the only few talking about it, so thank you. Extremely insightful.

It obvious from your films, which are outstanding, that you are as passionate about your film making as you are about your climbing. But hearing you talk about the process brings that passion out even more. Thank you Anna, for all that you create, from the silly to the sublime. It's an amazing gift to all of us. And your mobile created a funny effect in the top left corner. :D

This is the kind of stuff that belongs in Reel Rock! It's so important to show the personal growth and emotional aspects of climbing. You're a wonderful storyteller, and even more impressive that you do most of it yourself. It sounds like climbing has been an avenue for huge personal growth for you, and it's very cool to be brought along on your journey. Thank you for sharing <3

Thanks for the behind the scenes insights! It's so easy to overlook all of the hard work and planning that go into films of that scale. Jugging up those pitches almost sounds more tiring than climbing them, haha!

It's wonderful to see your passion for climbing and your passion for videomaking.
Really wish to be as free as you are. All of that is giving me the idea of starting my own YT channel of climbing.

Anna, my husband and I have been watching your channel for a while now, and we were super blown away by both your short films. It's incredible to see you growing in all aspects of your life; climbing, videography, editing, even just you as a person showing moments of reflection and growth. You're knocking it out of the park.

Really fascinating! I loved watching the film, but when I watch films like this I tend to imagine that they "just happen". I'm aware that there must be someone there with a camera, maybe climbing above, but the complexity of setting up these shots is an eye-opener. I'm not surprised you got emotional! It must be like a birth process.

Anna I love this thanks for sharing, perfect timing as I’m heading into my first ever project where I’m not going to be the main person behind the camera. I def describe myself as “someone who is not *actually* organized, so it’s nice to hear that you feel that way as well because I love your stuff

I always say how I love your vlogs and your fun humour and honesty. Oops I did it again. 😊 As the guy who watches all the dvd / blu ray extras to every movie I buy, this vlog was really up my street. Film making is so cool and I totally related to what you were saying about getting really excited about creating art that you can share with people and get positive interesting feedback about. Cliche time:- fail to plan = plan to fail. All that time thinking up questions, storyboarding, (adding a dog for a million extra views 😅) is never wasted. You made a movie! How cool is that!?! Nice one Anna 😊

I love how honest you are about all your emotions throughout the climbing journey, and this behind the scenes about the whole filming process! Thank you 🙏

Videography is something that has always fascinated me, but when I think about editing, I immediately feel that I'd better not even start. More kudos to you, Anna! I envy (in the best way possible) your creative and physical energy.

Very inspiring video, the honesty and passion is truly heartfelt. I am surprised sponsors don't see your skillsets. This video is going to help aspiring videographers on the work around a shoot, but more importantly the passion and work ethic to support you doing what you're passionate about. You inspire so many people just being you, which is a joy to watch.

The animations in the las locas video looked amazing, I thought you had an editor do it! I would actually love to know how you get money to finance all that you do. What kind of side jobs do you take on?

I love your content btw, been bouldering for four months and thanks to you and other creators I'm already able to take on fairly hard problems (and stay motivated to try problems I think I can't solve more often). Your Videos are incredibly inspiring and well made and it always makes my day when I see a new upload from you. Thank you so much for being so vulnerable and open in front of the camera ❤️
