Inquest into 1993 Highgate Hotel massacre begins on Monday

The formal inquest into the Highgate Hotel Massacre is set to commence in the Special Tribunal in East London in the Eastern Cape on Monday.

In May 1993, several unknown gunmen entered the Highgate Hotel in East London and opened fire on the hotel bars, taking the lives of five people, and injuring seven, two of whom are now deceased.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and no prosecution followed the incident.

The inquest is set to establish if anyone can be held liable for the death of the victims and injuries of the survivors.
