Learn to Draw #03 - Shading Techniques

DRAWING MATERIALS:

Shading helps create more realistic-looking drawings and sketches by revealing the shadow and light of any given scene. For shading, we must understand and observe what we are seeing and turn it into a black and white image in a drawing. Interpreting the scene's light and shadow into different values. It helps to first simplify this process by separating shadow from light. And then move into middle-grey values.

Dude you have no idea how so so grateful I am to have come across your channel.

I use to like drawing back in my early school years (I'm now in my 20's) but I stopped because I was really bad at it and I'd see other students' artwork and feel intimidated. I ultimately just came to the conclusion that I wasn't "born" to draw lol, silly me.

I wished right now the present me could go back in time and just slap some common sense into the young naive me 😂 I realize now that practice and patience is absolute key! things don't just happen overnight. I hear/d it all the time, if you like, love, and or want something, you need to put in WORK to achieve.

After watching your first 2 videos of this series, and now I'm here 💁 I'm more motivated than ever to get back into drawing and hopefully I'll become as good as you one day 😊 Thank you so much dude!!!

I've been drawing occasionally for years now, just basically looking at something and drawing whatever it was, I randomly shaded for the sake of giving it an effect. I look back at them after this video and realized I had about 40 different light sources lol. I picked up a pencil and was almost amazed at the clarity I had of light and its importance. So thanks, never thought I would get any further and I automatically got better after a 15 minute video.

After many years of thinking I couldn’t draw I finally picked up a pencil and tried, with your first three videos I am amazed at what I can achieve, it may be small but from someone who couldn’t even draw a decent stick man to manage circle with a shadow and a bit of shading is a small miracle and for it to look quite realistic is nothing but a revelation to me, I feel for the first time there is hope for me yet….
