I get asked this all the time. I’m an NHS Biomedical scientist and work in medical microbiology. The role of the biomedical scientist is to support the doctor in investigating the cause of disease . I chose biomedical science over medicine because I’m soft and I know that I’d cry a lot over tough patient cases.

I am a medtch and I'm kinda reevaluating my life decisions if I choose to shift to another science related program just less medicine and hospital haha.

medtch is routine procedures, biomed has lectures chem and things basically medtch has.

but honestly? biomedical sounds so much better than what I imagined medtech would be. it's basically what I could have gotten if I actually saw this first before medtch.

From what I gather from this video, biomedicine has a much higher studyload than medicine. It almost sounds as if medicine teaches you the "basics" superficially nand biomedicine dissects every aspect to the smallest unit so you truly understand what is going on. So why then was I not able to get into medicine and had to enrol in biomedicine with a very low chance of actually getting accepted into the medical postgraduate degree. Apparently, it is so competitive and so very few spaces available that 90% of students have to go into biomedicine instead. This does not make sense to me?

Fun fact, Most biomedical sciences degrees at top universities aren't accredited so you can't go straight into biomed after uni, this is because they expect most graduates to go and do their doctorate.

I wanna do medicine but the teachers predicted me Abb, and I've already asked them to put them up and stuff, so I'm gonna put biomed on my ucas application and just work really hard to get 3 As and apply thru clearing. If not I'll do biomed and then GEM or maybe go abroad, but I'm a bit unsure for funding
