Autodesk PowerMill has interactive features to create 3+2 and 5 axis simultaneous NC output in order to generate Collision and Gouge free toolpath. This reduces the need for additional setups thereby lowering the cycle time and reducing costs. These toolpaths can also use a shorter, more rigid cutting tool than a regular three-axis machining, resulting in greater dimensional stability, eliminate blind lines, increased tool life, reduced cycle time, and better surface finish. The content of the presentation includes 3+2 and 5 axis machining techniques highlighting the core differences in toolpath creation methods, where & when to use, advantages, disadvantages & combinations to reduce rotary axis motions, and utilizing rotary axis while facing limitations in machine motion.
