I like how you listed some applications of knowing these newly discovered structures. Really steps this video up from a typical "fun facts" kind of video.

We’ve gone a long way from head shoulders knees and toes!

I knew about 2 of the 4. So glad Scishow covered this. I took anatomy in 1994 and when hearing that they discovered lymphatic drainage from the brain back in 2015 I just started laughing. Of course! Of course! And all of the medical textbooks had to be rewritten. I was especially interested as someone who has had some weird neurological issues that doctors automatically wrote off as MS, because that's what they do if they can't find an easy explanation (like Parkinson or ALS). Only years later did I figure out what was really going on, with no help from doctors.

Although we know a lot, we still have so much to learn. It's a HUGE pet peeve of mine when doctors or scientists act like we/they have it all figured out. Or get bruised egos when I know more about something than they do instead of being curious about learning more.

Recently, since this video was made, they've discovered a new tiny muscle in the jaw! I bet there have been additional discoveries besides that. Now I'm off to read about interstitium as I am interested in seeing how it is possibly related or connected to fascia. Which is another part of anatomy that humans undervalued for a long time. Thanks Scishow.

"Even in the last decade. Or since 2010 for our purposes"
Way to immediately avoid half the comment section correcting the use of "decade" in a scientifically accurate manner. I like the writing nearly as much as the science on this channel.

Makes you wonder how many body parts we have yet to discover.

Oh wow interesting! I had Bile Duct disease in my 20's and the crazy thing is this was in the late 2000's and doctors were still unsure about much of how the bile duct worked mechanically. It was a tough recovery took almost 10 years to recover.

Which says a lot considering how much [the brain has studied itself]

The lymphatic tissue as a whole is so under-researched. I’m not surprised it was discovered in the brain this late.

Just like physics. Layers within layers within particles within particles within cell parts within cell parts. Ah, sweet mystery of life how you astound me.

Bro I have a few hundred body parts that haven't been discovered yet

Good thing the FBI hasn't been in my basement recently

Which body part dies last?

The eyes, because they dilate.

It’s mental how stuff I learnt in University this year that I assumed to be ancient scientific knowledge was found in the past decade...

You sir have the clearest speaking voice I've ever heard in youtube, every syllable and intonation are precisely intelligible 👏 I love listening to you coz I learn a lot aside from the fact that you look great 🤭 keep up the good work 👍

I was very interested to hear about the cornea research. I have a cornea disease called keratoconus, which deforms the curvature of the cornea and impairs vision. There is no cure, but there is a surgery called cross-linking, which sometime works (but only on patients under fifty, which I am not). The other “cure” is corneal transplant, which of course requires a donor, and which is also a very painful surgery with a lengthy and painful recovery time. I am hopeful that more research will result in better treatments or even cures for this disease. In the meantime, large, hard contact lenses called sclera lenses correct the vision quite well, but they are about $1, 000 a pair. (PS, always enjoy when Michael hosts!)

Update. They found the same bone structures inside the skull of both mice and humans. Turns out these channels actually monitor cerebral fluids and allow antibodies to get from the bone directly to the brain. Playing a major role in brain health. The study for this was released within the last couple of weeks as of 5/9/22.

This was not what I expected from the title. I think it says something about me that I was thinking this would be a "mysterious foot found in storm drain" video. Lol!

The ALL, an additional ligament in the knee, was also found in the 10’s

god i love being a mouse owner and watching scishows videos bc whenever i hear "mice arent humans/people" i just look at my mice and go "did you hear that? youre not valid. none of you are."

edit: this is a joke??? why are people taking this seriously???? what. huh whuh.
i dont abuse my animals. how the hell did people even come to that conclusion thru this.

In germany we call interstitium also "between-cell-room"
