Not all phones have OTG. Kingston has a device meant to serve video to multiple devices via wifi. It can be used for this as well.

I was thinking about investing in a separate backup unit like the gnarbox until I watched your video and realized that backing up on my phone with a micro sd is a much more flexible and affordable method. Thanks!

Also, full Windows tablets at 7" are available. They usually don't have more than 32 or 16 Gb flash storage, though, and usually no more than one micro USB input. But if you add a (powered) hub, it should be possible to transfer to say a separate harddrive of some type.

good stuff, as usual, Cliff.

i've been looking at that same pelican case for my sd cards. currently mine are store like your were. they're just in a small pouch in my bag. granted, i don't have any dogs, but i'd still like to keep them a bit safer and be able to just grab them all, all at once, and go if needed.

and i'm like you about having backups to backups to backups. i learned my lesson after having lost an entire hard drive out of an old computer, years back. i wont make that mistake again.

I had a similar problem, with a twist: for when you don't have a phone that has expandable storage for example.

My solution was similar, but I actually have a small 3 or 4 port USB hub connected to the OTG adapter. From here, I have a microusb reader plugged in, as well as an actual 2.5" portable HD. I would then use Stick Mount (android root app), and root explorer to transfer to the hard drive.

Limitations are of course that the phone should be charged as it'll be powering the whole upstairs downstairs mix-up, but I did find it handy when on vacation for backing up raw GoPro footage :). There are some plugins that can be done without root too supposedly, but I haven't had a chance, or the need to do so.

You can also copy from your phone to the portable hard drive for more space.

Awesome! I'm an old guy studying video and photos now so this is great info.
I wish there was an inexpensive sd card duplicator that fit in a pocket easily.

i've used the ravpower filehub plus and a western digital my passport wireless pro portable hard drive in my on the go travels. both have built-in sd card readers that can copy over video and photos. the wd can copy to its hard drive and then copy it back onto another sd card, phone, flash drive, solid state drive or computer. the wd is both 5ghz and 2.4ghz wifi and the usb port allows it to act as an external drive. the filehub serves and transfer files via 2.4ghz wifi or usb. both devices can also act as power banks. i discovered these devices while looking for a way to transfer and backup media on the go without a computer.

Here are some suggestions I've heard about (but haven't tested myself):

•Western Digital's wireless external drives, which have an integrated SD card reader

•WiFi enabled SD cards
