As a busy parent, I found that the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary to be very helpful, it also goes along with the devotion to the brown scapular. I pray/sing/chant at least four of the hours in Latin a day on top of my other daily devotions and prayers, as well as trying to keep myself and two very young children alive. On Veronica Brandt’s YouTube channel, you can find tutorials on how to sing the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, I even bought her Little Office course. I have gotten so much better at singing the Little Office in Latin and much faster with practice. It’s very doable.

I’m using Monastic Diurnal, mostly praying in Latin, I’m reciting psalms in my language (polish) 😊

I agree strongly with your talk on the priest. I love the TLM but can't travel there very often but am blessed to have a very reverent NO Mass in my village which I love and am allowed Communion on the tounge.

I pray the Monastic Diurnal with my daughter. We also have the Antiphonale Monasticum so we'll chant the antiphons in Latin and pray the psalms in english.

Started praying some of the Hours for lent this year, and kept going. I HIGHLY recommend it!

Praying the liturgy of the hours has increased both my closeness to God and since Mother Church is also praying at the same time has made me feel a deeper connection with the Church. I also use the Divine Office app and following along with the audio has been wonderful.

Reading the prayers of the Church, I heard, is more powerful and pleasing to God than our own private prayers since when Catholics pray them daily, they are in unison with each other, the Body of Christ is ONE. Makes sense. Beautiful. Thank you for this review. God bless you.

Nothing wrong with using your phone or tablet to read any of the daily Offices or indeed that Mass Readings of the day as long as you put your device on the 'Airplane Mode' or the 'Do Not Disturb' setting. This assures no distractions when it is being used for reading. It's like a signal blocker. Much easier to carry around too!
By the way, some Office issues have a beautiful addition of the 'Psalm Prayer' after Psalm I and III of Morning and Evening prayer but in the translation and official issues for Ireland they are absent. I would suggest that if you are investing in the Divine Office books, make sure you have the Psalm prayers in there too. They are a beautiful help in meditating on the psalm just read.
Try also to make use of the little symbols *, + at the end of the psalm lines. They are there to help in the chanting but when not chanting * can be taken as a symbol to pause and + to continue directly into the next line without a pause. Obviously commas and full stops have their usual meanings!! :)

I used the monastic diurnal at first, but switched to the one volume “Christian Prayer Liturgy of the Hours”. It is shorter and a beautiful translation and allows for me to participate in the prayer of the Church while also allowing me time to do other devotions.

There’s the various “Little Offices” dedicated to various devotions like the Sacred Heart, the Passion, the Immaculate Heart, etc.

I have both the LOTH and the traditional 3volume Breviary (Latin w/ English side by side)....I prefer the hymns in the traditional Breviary... it's richer and always praising the Holy Trinity at the end ❤️... I also like the Benedictus/Magnificat antiphons in the traditional Breviary ❤️....🙏🙏🙏😇

I can't agree with you Robert about the online version of the Office. I have Universalis on my phone and Ipad and find it wonderful. I try to read as much as possible of it each day and I think the IPad version is very good. By the way thank you for introducing me to the Word on Fire Bible. I got the 2 volumes Gospels and Acts etc. and they are truly beautiful. A great aid to prayer .

If you want a Latin-English side by side traditional breviary, Baronius Press have a three volume edition of the 1961 office. That's probably right up your street.

I have prayed the Book of Common Prayer for years (1962 Canadian) but have recently transitioned over to the Ordinariate Version. I like it better personally than the Liturgy of the Hours. Personal preference of course. When I did pray LotH I used the Harper-Collins edition used in England, Wales, etc. Quality is far superior to the American version (Catholic Book Publishing). And the English version is a better translation. I hope with the new translation in the USA CBP will not be granted the sole ability to publish it. CBP somehow got stuck in the 1970s regarding artwork, materials, and translation. 🤢🤮 But the Ordinariate Office is better than them all in it beauty of language.
