"But...where I have a father, you have a dad."

That line always hits me like a 500 lb bomb.

“My father and I have been 12, 000 miles apart in the same room.”
More like my mother for me, but DAMN I felt that.

One of the most underrated qualities that makes Winchester an excellent doctor: he has fantastic bedside manner. He very consistently showed the ability to connect with patients when they really needed it. This scene with Pierce is the same.

What i like about this is that both fathers are good people
One of them just happens to be a good dad as well

“Even now, the sight of lettuce makes me talk faster.” Underrated line, simple but well-written.

“Where I have a father, you have a dad” is one of the best, most hard hitting lines I’ve ever heard in any form of entertainment

After all of these years MASH at its best still hits harder than any other tv show.

I always liked this scene. I also liked that Charles called Hawkeye by his nickname

I even feel like that Charles was the perfect person to talk with Hawkeye

The idea that Charles says "Hawkeye" instead of Captain or Pierce makes this more personal.

I used this special moment between Hawkeye and Charles at my Dad's funeral. When I brought it up at the eulogy, there was not a dry eye in the whole church. Even the musicians there were in tears. I miss you very much Dad, I am looking forward to seeing you again one day.

Charles lets his guard down and the holier-than-thou snobbish accent is is largely absent.

Such a completely believable and honest telling of a distant relationship with your father. I can somewhat relate.

This episode was a real turning point in the relationship between Winchester and Hawkeye. You can hear a hint of envy in his words in the defining line of the scene.

Scenes like this show why Charles was such a better character than Frank could've ever been

You feel that even though Charles had a great father, he wished he had a Dad like Hawkeye.

I had forgotten how well-written and acted this show was. Props.

A man can be a father but it takes a real man to be a dad

AFAIK that was the first time Winchester called Pierce “Hawkeye”. Great work in that moment: the writing, but also the shot of Alda as he portrayed Pierce reacting to the nickname. And of course, Stiers was brilliant.

This was my favorite Charles moment. You really see the humanity in him, and you get why he is so guarded and comes off as such a prick at times, because deep down hes scared to death to allow himself to be vulnerable only to get hurt.

Charles, next to Potter and BJ were the best additions to the cast. Their characters had deep humanity, and also great integrity.
