Bright Light Practices Feb 2025

A special thanks to Kamal Perera for visiting us that day. It was a pleasure for all of us to meet you, and they were thrilled to connect with you. I'm so happy that they are now willing to try playing English songs, which they hadn't been exposed to before. My only wish is for the world to witness the incredible talent they have.

I am proud to have created the name for the band and the logo, which carries the slogan "Yes We Can." At Riversheen School of Music, we don't allow phrases like "I can't," "It's hard," or "It's difficult." In the beginning, there were many excuses, but now they understand that it's pointless because I don't give in. Sometimes, I forget that they are visually impaired, as I don't let them rest. But I know that they all love me for pushing them forward.

There is no greater happiness than seeing the smiles on their faces. For more than two years, many of them hardly spoke, but now they are very talkative—ha ha! They sometimes travel such long distances, but their energy is endless. The parents who bring them also bring joy by dancing to the fast songs we play. It brings me great pleasure to witness this.

I always think of my mother, the late Mrs. Trila Perera, who did so much community work while she was the music teacher at Princess of Wales College. She has always been an inspiration to me. I'm also deeply grateful to my wife and children for their unwavering support, and to my brother Rukshan Perera. A huge thanks to Mr. Samath Fernando, who has been a constant supporter, providing instruments and financial assistance.

I must also thank Mrs. Florida Anthony for her generous gifts, and Mrs. Felicia Sally for her great assistance in attending every practice, bringing yummy desserts, and raising awareness. Not forgetting Dylan Aniff for his support all the way from Dubai, and Mrs. Rehana Wethasinghe for lending us the premises at the MJF Center in Katubadda and connecting us with Prabath Wickramanayeke. And last but not least, a big thank you to the newspapers that have carried articles about us. Their coverage makes me feel that I'm not alone in this journey.

Very soon, you'll have the chance to witness their live performance! I truly hope you’ll support them by bringing your friends along to experience their incredible talent.
