Показать описание
Agia Roumeli is situated approximately 60 kilometers south of Chania, at the end of the famous Samaria gorge. Most visitors to the Samaria gorge pass through Agia Roumeli as its port provides the only means of returning to either Sfakia or Sougia. Alternatively, hikers can also take the E4 path, though this may be too demanding after completing the gorge trek.

If you've completed the Samaria gorge hike, a dip in the cool waters of the sea will provide relief and a pleasant feeling. Spending a night in Agia Roumeli is highly recommended, as the atmosphere is magical at night.

One of the highlights of Agia Roumeli is the fortress located at the top of the hill. This structure was built by the Turks in 1869 and can be accessed via a demanding but rewarding hike, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

*Wonderful footage of Agia Roumeli. The gorge and shoreline views are amazing. **1:52** the boat doesn't seem to be doing well. Nice beach though! 👍*

How do cars get to Agia Roumeli???
It used to be inaccessible except by boat or on foot through Samaría.
When I was there, in 1972, 1973 and 1975, there was one taverna. The owner had built a tiny building with two rooms by 1975.
Anyone who hadn’t taken a boat to Paleochora or Hora Sfakion slept on the beach.
I walked that gorge three times. I couldn’t go to Crete and not walk it.
I think I’ll stay away and keep my memories ❤
