Your videos are not just tutorials, they have sort of therapeutic effect. When i watch you drawing and speaking, i feel better. It’s kinda separated feeling from learning aspect, which i also appreciate a lot. I like pencil sketching, marker sketching, watercolor motives, however, i practice it no so often. Too many other hobbies, i need 36 hours in a day :)

Leaving room for the imagination is one of my most favorite things about drawing. The eye never tries to take in every bit of detail at once when you look at something, so a drawing should reflect that. Otherwise it's information overload and it can look cluttered. You teach better lessons than most artists on this site!

I am a multimedia artist, learning to watercolor by watching youtube. I found your sketching videos on youtube and spent the last two days watching, learning, and sketching. I am so grateful for your guidance and tips. I am hooked! I ordered one of your books on Amazon yesterday. I am rewatching one of your videos as I write this. Thank you immensely from Tucson AZ

In this tutorial, I have clearly understood the importance of the negative space and imperfect or uncompleted lines makes still sense for the observer. So we should not worry about it. I think the psychology of the drawer makes an impact on the paper. Thanks, Alphonso you are really helpful. Love you.

You’re such a wonderful teacher. You make this make sense— I have the drive and passion, I just needed a good teacher like you.

Thanks so much Alphonso for lots of amazing advice. I’m loving urban sketching. I am a complete beginner and using the horizon line is already making a difference to compositions. I’m now drawing loads of things I avoided before such as trees and people.

My favorite artist is Kim Jung Gi, and he says that when he was young trying to draw faces, he would always get stuck up on the little details like the face not being symmetrical and he would always get upset over it forgetting the bigger picture. So now, if a detail doesn’t go right, he works with it, and it actually adds character to the drawing. A perfect drawing with no mistakes is bland, a drawing with a couple of mistakes is fun and great looking.

I have a hard time doing that. I try to capture every detail. Got to learn to fight against.

New to sketching but really enjoying, your videos have given me much confidence, especially what not to draw and also that it does not need to be perfect, thankyou

This could not have arrived at a better time, my Brother. I've been struggling to understand and practice these concepts. Thanks for a clear understanding ...I'm operating out of my "Child" mind. ANd Congratulations on your accomplishments. Outstanding!

I am an amateur (my cartoons were published in a textbook as comic relief, but that is still in print, 40 years!) and I teach a bit of cartooning, silhouettes are a really effective way to suggest rather than distract from your subject

I do have a tendency to add way too many details. Thanks for the great tips!

to learn is always an exercise in mindfulness... funnny to see how much acknowledgement is behind a "simple" drawing.
