Nollywood came to life in the early 1990s and is the most popular movie industry in Africa. It surpasses Hollywood as the world's second largest movie industry by volume, right behind India's Bollywood. This, however does not mean that Nollywood ranks above Hollywood or Bollywood in terms of production quality or return on investment but in this video, we will discuss the economics of the Nollywood industry.
Nigeria’s most populous city is Lagos and going to the movies is a favorite hobby of many young people in the city. Lagos is the capital of Nollywood and the film industry today is the largest employer after agriculture and makes up 5% of Nigeria’s GDP.
