I've done this in Word, and it can be done hands free if you have a middle wheel on your mouse.
Simply press the middle wheel once, the cursor turns into an up/down arrow. Then drag the mouse down slightly to start auto scrolling the page.
You have control over the speed, depending on how far downward you drag the mouse. It doesn't take much to start the scroll, so do it carefully.

Thank you—I'm impressed. I love doing book readings. Plus, I generate a lot of scripts for my live content, and I keep looking down to read them. This year, I want to advance the way I do live content, whether it is for NFL updates, trending news, etc. My problem is that I have an HP-all-in-one desk top with a built-in webcam built inside the monitor. TO use Google Docs I will need to mount it higher behind the desk top - (issue: I have an extra device Google Tablet with a keyboard and mouse (that folds) - can't mount it behind my computer which is eye level and I need it to be "BEHIND" the built-in webcam on my monitor. ANy suggestions?

Thanks for this! I'll definitely give it a try. I'm just starting to explore the world of teleprompter apps and and think this might be exacty what would work best for me anyway! Two suggestions: #1 - I actually just recently discovered you can format a Google Doc to be "pageless", which is probably what you use, but if I didn't know that existed, that would not make using Google Docs nearly as effective for a teleprompter. My Google Docs used to, by default, come up split into pages. #2 - You should include an affiliate link to your teleprompter in the show notes. I looked for one and was going to check it out. 😉 But thanks again for the helpful tip for the "free app", which works about exactly as I had hoped I'd find. Something I could control the scroll myself with my laptop as I recorded. And FREE! 😅👏

You can also make it continuous pages or eliminate the header and footer so you don’t have such big jumps between pages

So the monitor lying on it's back under the reflector glass is a devoted teleprompter monitor that has the option of reversing the text. This was not mentioned at any stage through the video. Just dragging text is not the feature we all watched to find out. It is what disolay is going to provide the text reversed at all. Turns out this is the only way by having a devoted prompter monitor or an app for a tablet/pad.

But how do you mirror the image to read the Google doc?

But the free apps scroll down a programmed rate (speed) and you can pause it with the touch of a wireless keyboard. And also if you get a mirror the apps mirror the text for it. And they are FREE!

It was like - so nice I don't have to buy a teleprompter ! So much for the talk.
And if you have a mouse with wheel, you can auto-scroll text by pressing the wheel down once and take the cursor close to the upper side of page scroller ( on the right side of the document) . Speed of scrolling can be controlled by cursor placement.

A nice option would be to have a small extended monitor that fits the promper base and control it from your PC

You can also use you phone in split screen. Have your word processor at the top (closer to the camera) and your video screen open at the bottom. Only problem is that you have to be close enough to scroll the document as you read.

This perfect as I teach from a piano looking straighton into an iMac with monitors on each side. All other cameras are on my hands. The traditional teleprompter could never have worked.

Won't work for me because the image shows up reversed on my teleprompter. I need real teleprompter software to be able to reverse the image.

With a PC mouse, pop the cover off and take the piece of wire out that clicks the scroll wheel for smooth, silent operation
