Well, it looks like Nintendo will, once again, be rereleasing an old game at an even higher price than it was when it was brand new.

Donkey Kong Country Returns originally launched back on the Wii for $50. The price was later dropped to $20 when it was sold as part of the Nintendo Selects line of games. Eventually a 3DS version of the game was released for $40, but it came with some new added levels. This 3DS version was also discounted to $20 when it too got the Nintendo Selects treatment.

Now, DKC Returns is getting its 3rd release from Nintendo, and this time, on Switch, it will have its highest retail price ever: $60. This has made a lot of Nintendo fans quite upset, as it seems this version doesn’t really add anything to justify that price increase besides HD textures and graphics.

Now, technically, if you adjust for inflation, the original Wii release would cost you just over $70 today. So you could realistically argue that this new Switch version is technically cheaper than the original. But still, that hasn’t stopped the disappointment from fans.

It seems like $60 is just what Nintendo thinks remastered Wii games should be worth. We saw the exact same price, and the exact same outrage, when Skyward Sword and Kirby’s Return to Dreamland were brought to the switch. Mario Galaxy was also priced at $60, but it was an easier pill to swallow because it came bundled together with 2 other 3D mario games, 64 and Sunshine.

I bought elden ring for 40 bucks not even a year after release, so there isn't much of a way to justify nintendo here (I'm also a huge donkey kong fan)

I’d honestly rather pay 80 Canadian dollars for this actually good video game than another half baked Mario sports game.

Inflation. Simple reason. Also, to all the haters in the comments, try focusing on the positive in life, you’ll find life is a lot easier when you do. Be grateful you can now play it on switch then not at all

To be honest, Nintendo didn't give us time to miss this game
Considering DK's release schedule was

I think the price point is only 1/3rd of the problem.

Or how about the fact that if you've never played the game before, and this is your first go-around with it, then it's a reasonably priced game.

I bought it for about $50 US at the Play Asia store.

Who would spend 70$ on a century old console when you can just..mod the console

It's a way for them to sell the vouchers. At the end of the day it looks good on they side to be selling individual games for 60 or double the sale with "a loss" of 20$. Either way it looks good for them on book

I'm fine paying full price for this game. My daughter and I played it when it first came out on the Wii and now we are playing it on the Switch this weekend. It's one of our favorite co-op games.

$10 more after 15 years. the problem here isn’t the price increase, it’s the lack of wage increases (including the minimum wage) within places like the U.S.

Cheaper than the original one factoring in inflation + the 3DS levels + HD textures + on the current GEN console… sounds like a fair price to me. I swear, people love to just complain about everything for the sake of complaining.

Country returns was WAY better than tropical freeze. It’s no mystery why country returns was released on three different consoles

The original version’s a scalper item in my area for some reason so I’m glad i finally get to play the game at all with this new release

I don't care about the price this game was my childhood and I'm definitely getting it to switch besides I haven't played extra levels that came with 3ds version

Probably shouldn’t cost more than the Prime remaster, same goes for LM2HD and I think I’ll wait for it to go on sale for 39.99 or less.
