These are very popular in Slovakia, people in rural areas love them but also, many towns and cities use the new version (the orange one) to clean pavements and narrow streets, do maintenance, clearing snow, watering parks in summer. You can use it for so many things and get to places where bigger vehicles can't go

Multicar is the only GDR truck brand that survived German reunification. Their vehicles are specially tailored for municipal use and are therefore designed to be much more compact.

My mom had a minijob at a city gardening service and they had 2 of the Multicars - IFA is a company that was popular in east-Germany (they also had bigger trucks used for example as firetrucks) The Multicar in the late 1990s didn't have seatbelts so they've been shaking you up pretty nicely...

In a former workplace I had to sit in the passenger seat of one of these once. I'm 6'1" and had my knees against the dashboard while my head hit the roof. They can indeed be a little cramped :D
But they can do a lot of different kinds of work, very versatile.

I've wanted to get my hands on an older Multicar which has what I believe is a Deutz air-cooled diesel V twin. I love the sound, and the feel of it pulling up a hill as you release the clutch is unreal for something so small.

The advantage of the small size in a city environment is they can clear the pedestrian walkways of snow and can use brushes to clear the litter.

Tried a 3 banger diesel mini tractor from Japan.
That was really fun moving snow with a big brush. It´s really powerfull with the hydraulic pump in the gears and AWD. Felt almost like a catapult rollercoaster launch both ways the first 90 feet.

Im from Poland, like 10 years ago they were everywhere, and even now they can be seen. I belive they were sometimes called "Kogucik" - little rooster 😉

The military one is called a „Mungo“. It‘s really fun to drive. But since it is lightly armoured you need a semi license.

Id say your best chance in the USA would be a mini dump kei truck like a Suzuki Carry, Daihatsu Hijet and other brand flavors .YouTube Mike Festiva or Motocheez for an idea on what's possible...They are getting somewhat popular though so prices might be an issue.

In many ways this is the better UNIMOG. They are less expensive . In many cases the MOG is overkill and overpriced. I live in the Netherlands and we saw the first ones around the beginning of the 80ties, They did work in the cities like for the gardners or with a small snowplough. They were not popular with the drivers, but I think it was more like an image thing. "Bweh, GDR sh*t" They did their job, easy access, tight turning circle. tipper .

The MOG always had a reputation for being indestructable, but that is also a drivers thing.

The MiltiCar istn't half of cool as the video is trying to suggest... ;o)
The roots aren't offroad at all. The first ones are made as mini Mini-Trucks. Kinda private property, small farm, factory area... Do you know the Piaggio Ape? Or have you seen the small, electric, china trucks? Golf car sized mini trucks? It was meant to be like this, originally.
The MultiCars came from East Germany, but they evolved pretty far into a kinda multi purpose urban truck. They are made to go to very small areas. They are not supposed to go anywhere, but to places like into small yards, inside workshops, halls, onto board walks for cleaning... stuff like that. To be ready for competition, they nowadays added stuff like 4x4, heavy hydraulic systems and PTO. But, unlike the UniMog, these are bonuses, they are not core of the originale mindset!. :-)
Greetings from Germany,
Pete.

edit: perfect example for a MultiCar job: park maintenance! Why didn't I came up with this idea in the first place? :o)
