Interesting to hear you say that potatoes are ‘quite destructive of the soil’ and to grow in containers. I discovered quite the opposite here in Tuscany Italy in my start up garden…. The container potatoes dried out quickly and required a lot of water and attention and I got no crop. However the quality of a clay soil after a first crop of potatoes has been beautiful. Very happy with my first grown crop of potatoes too! I suspect the exudates from the potatoes help the soil microbiology to develop. Next year I want to put my potatoes crops using No Dig with straw on all my new garden beds as a first crop. One can rarely have enough potatoes! Huw, thanks for sharing your gardening experience with us all.

When you are talking about your favorite 2021 hack. Is this after the growing season for tomatoes and right before winter?
How do you keep mosquito larva our of the open container of water? What is safe to add to the water to keep them at bay?
I love your channel and I am really looking forward to trying some of these this year :D

Great video Hue. I love the focus on more permaculture/no dig methods.
I would really like to see a visit to Alan Carter's forest garden on his allotment in Aberdeen, as I also live in Scotland. Would that be possible?

Congrats on the book release! I'm curious what containers you use to grow your potatoes? I'm just starting a veg garden for the first time and the potato grow bags they sell at my garden center are so expensive!! If I get some black plastic bins to grow my potatoes in, what size should I get and how many seed potatoes can go in? Should I drill holes for drainage? Thank you!

Hi Huw, I was thrilled to receive your Veg In One Bed book as a surprise Christmas present last year so will be getting myself a copy of the new book! One thing I'd like to ask though, is what do you do with the spent potato compost. I have 6 40L grow bags full from last year and have no idea what to do with it. As far as I'm aware the plants did not suffer from blight. Keep up the good work! Many thanks, Ross.
