Remember playing Destruction Derby 2 as a kid in 1998 and I thought it was the first time video game that had realistic car physics, because at that point all racing games I've played had been 2D texture animations sliding across the screen giving it the illusion of driving fast. So this was very impressive for me as a child.

What I liked about DD2 was they went out and hired Paul Page to be the announcer. He used to call the races on TV for ABC and ESPN back in the day. Mostly Indycar races, and his later years were covering NHRA events.

The franchise actually had a great evolution, all of them looks awesome according to their respective eras, sadly the franchise had a short life.

I remember loving the first on my PSX then being severely disappointed by 2 on my PC.

Edit: By arena's it just evolved into carmagedden/ twisted metal without the weapons...

Crazy how DD2 is in a league of its own. Tracks, cars, damage, the feeling of hitting a car and the MUSIC ... all other DD titles are so far off.

I randomly discovered this game (destruction derby 64), (because the cover looked cool) at blockbuster, one night. Then I rented it like 3 more times, before my dad just bought it for me, by surprise.
