Every 10th November, Only in Turkey, Life Stops a moment

In All Turkey, In All Cities, Since 1938, on the 10th of every November, at 09:05, the Founder of Modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, is mourned. Life stops for a moment. Fighting, traffic accident, Ambulances, everything you can see stops for a moment. Such a stance of respect is unprecedented in the world.

I was in Antalya for a vacation. Took a taxi to go to Side and all of a sudden our driver stopped and stood in the middle of a busy road and frankly we were afraid. The cars were piling up behind us but they were not honking or shouting at us. They followed our taxi driver as he stood with a tear in everyones eye.

Later on our ride i asked the driver about it. He simply replied.

"We lost our father. How can i not stop and mourn our father?"

Brilliant. Simply brilliant.

You know what the best thing is? It's not like mandatory or law. Every soul standing is showing love and respect for the Atatürk and his friends ❤️

I experienced it when in Istanbul in a hotel room facing the Marmara Sea.
I heard the Sirens and then there was complete stillness. I am not exaggerating: even the birds stopped singing.
They sensed something is unusual.

I've just finished reading a biography of Ataturk and this annual commemoration was mentioned. It's incredible to watch everything stop, even the football match. The tourists atthe airport must have been confused; an alarm has gone off but everyone's standing still. Thanks for uploading this.

Not just in Türkiye, but all around the world, we do this. Living in the US, I do the same thing. Life stop for me at 9:05 AM on Nov 10th. While I remember him and I am thankful every day, that specific time is special and hard to explain. Thanks for this fantastic video. I have watched it in tears.
