These are the nerve cells that send electrical impulses to the muscles resulting in muscle functioning. Now let’s dive in and have a look at what is motor neuron disease. Motor neuron disease is defined as a collective group of disorders where the nerves in the spinal cord or brain start losing their functions over a period. It is a rare type of disorder, but it is a severe neurodegenerative condition. Motor neuron disease can appear at any period of your life, whether you are young or old. However, the symptoms usually appear once you are above 40 years old. It is more commonly seen in men than in women.
There are various forms of motor neuron disease which are classified based on genetic transfer or the type of neurons affected.
