Rudy was a perfectionist. I had the pleasure of talking to him over my Ham Radio (Amateur Radio) station back in the 70's and 80's, when I lived in Northern New Jersey, only about a mile from where he lived. I had no idea who he was, nor did he discuss his profession. I just remember talking about microphone and antenna technology, and he was very meticulous and detailed in his discussions.

Eine wunderbare Erinnerung an den größten Ton-Ing. im Jazz, den ich seit Jahrzehnten bewundert habe. Wenn ich eine LP kaufte, und da stand drauf: rec.by Rudy Van Gelder, dann war das "ein muß".
Wenn man liest für welche Aufnahmen er verantwortlich zeichnete wie " A Love Supreme" etc., das ist JAZZ-GESCHICHTE

Most 50's or 60's jazz records i've collected had one name on the back cover: Rudy van Gelder. Great work, man! Thanks so much. And rest in peace.
