Some of the best R&B music emerged from the '90s, including songs by the Dalyrimple brothers, better known as Soul for Real. They took over the Billboard charts with their two hit songs, 1994’s “Candy Rain,” and 1995’s “Every Little Thing I Do.”

Backed by their mentor Heavy D, the brothers experienced a brief moment of success, before it all came crashing down. Here's what happened to Soul for Real and the real reason they were blacklisted.

The industry can be so cruel. It’s good that today’s artists are looking at ways of diversifying their income because the music isn’t where it’s at.

"Candy Rain" and "Every Little Thing" still hold up to this day. Those tracks are absolute showstoppers.

This is beyond sad to hear...ALL OF IT. I don't like how we do each other. These brothers were an awesome group that brought clean music that the elders loved to hear.
To this day I play CANDY RAIN & EVERY LITTLE THING YOU DO during my cookouts. Yes indeed...out in the backyard...SOUL TRAIN LINE. 😍💯
Seriously though they were treated dirty with no reason. What happened to Heav & Andre was tragic but no one knows how God works...that's all I'm saying on that.

Hearing how they were treated by Heavy D, his brother, Andre H, etc. makes you view them in a different light. I guess I have this view of Heav being this laid back cat who made fun songs. It just shows how cutthroat the industry is. Even the dopest people will take advantage. Soul 4 Real have solidified themselves as an integral part of the 90s✨️💫

Candy Rain, by Soul For Real, is pound for pound the most catchy ol' school joint of all time.

I get so mad when I hear how our black elders treat and take advantage of the youth for greed, power and money 💰. Too many stories like this....Disgusting

You just had to be there(90’s) to understand the feel, the talents etc. I swear there were over 100 girl and boy groups. Music like this can’t be replaced or duplicated!!!! But I’m hoping that five stair steps video is coming

I always wondered what happened to them. It’s like they just fell off the planet. Can’t believe Heavy did that 😭 My oldest daughter used to sing “Every little thing I do, you’re oh my my” instead of “On my mind” and instead of “Hey” she’d say “shake”..She was like 3 😆

Even if they never put out anymore music it still saddens me that they never received royalties from “candy rain”, that has to be one of the most played r&b records of all time.

It's is ridiculous & should be illegal for how these record labels along with the management companies lie, cheat, steal & defraud the very artist who's bringing in the money especially when it's a black record label/black management company. It's down right pathetic.

I really think the people were jealous because they were to become the next New Edition. Candy Rain is definitely a timeless hit on the charts.

I've always heard nothing but positive things about Heavy D up until this video. So he had a difference of opinion with a group member, but to never want to speak to them again? That's a bit extreme and shady on Heavy's part. I guess there are two sides to anyone. I hate how the industry allowed Soul For Real to crash and burn so fast. They just don't care at ALL! Be letting all of this talent fall off like this! I feel so bad for the artists. You think you'll be doing this for a living for the rest of your life, only to release one big commercial album and be dropped, then have to go back to normal life like nothing ever happened. Going back to the struggle and working a regular 9-5 would be somewhat traumatic initially I'd imagine.
