Akaflieg Karlsruhe - Up in the Air

This video features, amongst other gliders, three one of a kind prototypes of the Akaflieg Karlsruhe.

The DG-1000J is a double seated glider with a jet engine, the most powerful one in operation in Europe. The AK-5 and AK-8 had their first flight in 1990 and 2003 and where supposed to test new aerodynamic features.

The Akaflieg Karlsruhe is the academic flight club of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and exists since 1928. It offers students the possibility to fly and is the inventor of several airplanes all constructed and build by students.
